NETWORK

1. Definition

1: a fabric or structure of cords or wires that cross at regular intervals and are knotted or secured at the crossings
2: a system of lines or channels resembling a network
5 : a usually informally interconnected group or association of persons (as friends or professional colleagues)

2. Description

Network, as a noun, is describing a set of things that linked together. They are commonly seen in everyday life. The highways together make a network. Highways, waterways and flight lines together build up a broader transportation network. The organization of a union is social network. The supply chain of a production is trade network. The predators and preys in nature is ecology network.
A building can be seen as a node in a network. Actually it is playing various roles in each networks and meanwhile making those networks correlated. As those networks meet in one building, there will come interesting results. Different objects will be put together. Different people will meet. Different places will be related. A building will function like a city.

  1. i think you said "NETWORK" is the first year studio theme this semester. is any different definition emerging from your studio work (question for any of you in studio)?
